What this site is,and who publishes it.
Plainly, and without the usual hedging — because a site recommending a product you might buy owes you a straight account of its own position.
What ScannerReader covers
This site is about one narrow thing: reading printed text aloud, for adults, using a handheld scanning pen. Not classroom deployment, not children’s literacy instruction, not procurement. Those live on other sites in the same network and are written for entirely different readers.
The material here divides into 34 guides across five areas — what reading assistance is, the everyday situations it applies to, how text-to-speech works, how a pen compares with the alternatives, and how to choose between models.
Disclosure. ScannerReader is part of the Scanmarker product network. The devices recommended here are Scanmarker models, and purchase links go to the Scanmarker store. This site is not an independent review publication and does not present itself as one.
How models are selected
Every price, specification and language figure on this site is read at publication time from one shared product dataset rather than typed by hand into each page. That is a deliberate constraint: it means a page cannot quietly go stale or contradict another page, and it means nothing here can state a specification that the underlying data does not contain.
The two models recommended on the homepage are selected on a single criterion — whether the pen reads aloud without a phone, tablet or computer attached. Connected models are listed on the comparison page with the same data, clearly labelled, because for some readers they genuinely are the better buy.
What this site does not do
- It does not publish reviews, star ratings or testimonials. None exist here, invented or otherwise.
- It does not compare Scanmarker against competitor products, because it has not tested them. A comparison built on specifications lifted from someone else’s marketing page is not a comparison.
- It does not make medical, clinical or diagnostic claims. A reading pen provides access to printed text; it does not treat, correct or diagnose any condition.
- It does not link to third-party retailers or marketplaces.
Accuracy and corrections
Guides carry the date they were last reviewed. Product data carries the month it was last checked — currently August 2026. Prices and specifications can change without notice, so the product page is always the authority at the moment of purchase, not this site.
